Dr. Colon-Perez is a Post doctoral researcher with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, working with Dr. Marcelo Febo, Department of Psychiatry, University of Florida. He earned his B.S. in Physics from the University of Puerto Rico (Rio Piedras, PR), and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL) under the guidance of Thomas H. Mareci (Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology). As a doctoral student, Dr. Colon-Perez participated in multiple international conferences (Montreal Canada, Melbourne Australia and Milan Italy). His research has been published in Neurotoxicology, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, Microscopic and Mesosporous Media, Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Critical Reviews in Biomedical Engineering. Currently he is interested in studying the brain's structural and functional topological organization with diffusion and functional MRI. He employs complex networks analysis to represent the brain as a connected structure and apply these techniques to neurological disorders like Parkinson's, and addiction studies in rodents.

Dr. Colon-Perez awards include the NSF Florida-Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (FGLSAMP) Bridge to the Doctorate Fellowship, MRI achievement award from the Southeastern Magnetic Resonance Conference, Magna Cum Laude Merit award from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and travel awards from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (2011, 2012 and 2014) and the Biophysical Society Conference (2013). He holds membership in International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, American Physical Society, Biophysical Society and Society for Neuroscience. Dr. Colon-Perez has participated in STEM outreach as a judge of poster competitions in the Florida Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.
